My Beautiful Laundrette 1985
Summary:
A young Asian man, Omar (Gordon Warnecke) takes on a laundrette in a rough area of London to prove to his wealthy uncle that he can hack it in the family business. To help him, he hires an old school friend, Johnny (Daniel Day Lewis) who has been involved with the local neo-Nazi group.
The two men turn the laundrette into a success while at the same time having a homosexual affair.
Review:
When this was released it was fairly controversial for it's racial and sexual subject matter, but it still stands up as a powerful piece of cinema even after sixteen years.
The leads are attractive and believable and the sex scene very erotic even though it happens in semi darkness.
A thought provoking movie that's much deeper than it appears on first viewing.
